Lower 9th

Monday, August 29, 2005 :

After warning of the impending hurricane little was done to secure a 200 foot barge, as the water levels began to rise the barge broke loose sending it crashing through a small section of levee, and subsequently tore through one of New Orleans most impoverished neighborhoods leaving behind a mess of what used to be peoples homes and lives.  This destruction can still be witnessed even nearly ten years later, with very little effort or money put towards rebuilding, the majority of displaced families will never be able to return to the homes and neighborhood they once knew.
